India Ranks 4th Most Equal Country (World Bank Report) India has been named the fourth most equal country by the World Bank in 2025, with a Gini Index of 25.5. Extreme poverty dropped from 16.2% (2011) to 2.3% (2023), moving 171 million people out of poverty. Government schemes like Jan Dhan, Ayushman Bharat, DBT, and Stand-Up India played a big role in this success.

Himachal Introduces Face ID for Ration Distribution Himachal Pradesh became the first Indian state to use Aadhaar-based face authentication for the Public Distribution System. This method uses a smartphone to verify users via facial recognition, replacing fingerprints and OTPs. It aims to improve transparency and access.

New Fish Species Discovered – Pethia Dibrugarhensis Scientists have found a new species of fish in the Brahmaputra River in Assam. Named ‘Pethia dibrugarhensis,’ it belongs to the Cyprinidae family and has unique features like an incomplete lateral line and no barbels.

Satkosia Tiger Reserve in News Odisha government’s decision to build a bridge near Satkosia Tiger Reserve has raised concerns. The reserve is home to tigers, elephants, and the endangered gharial. It lies between the Deccan Peninsula and Eastern Ghats.

Indian Bank and PNB Waive Minimum Balance Charges Indian Bank and Punjab National Bank have removed charges for not maintaining a minimum balance in savings accounts. Indian Bank also lowered its one-year lending rate to 9%. This helps promote banking access, especially for the poor.

Rs 2,000 Notes Worth Rs 6,099 Crore Still in Use The RBI has said that Rs 2,000 currency notes worth Rs 6,099 crore are still in circulation even after they were withdrawn in 2023. People can still deposit or send these notes via RBI or post offices.
